Born within a family of artists in Madrid, Spain, “Sunny” the wildlife painter, demonstrated a love for art and drew well early in childhood. Her passion for all living things and science in general lead her to pursue a career as a Biologist (later specializing in Molecular Biology) and move to the United States. After 27 years working in laboratories as a cancer researcher, she decided to return to her painting advocation full time.
Her art education included classes at the University of Maryland, the Montpelier Arts Center in Maryland, and later at the Scottsdale Artists School in Arizona. She studied with renown instructors like Amery Bohling, Phil Beck, James Coulter, Robert Goldman, Ray Roberts, Peggy Kroll-Roberts, David Harlan, Cody DeLong and Chris Saper.
She is an artist who is fascinated with portraiture, and loves to depict the beauty in the animal world. She particularly loves the representation of light and contrast, using both oils and pastels. Her children’s portraits have won awards with the Portrait Artists of Arizona. She has also received awards at the Best & Brightest show at the Scottsdale Artist School, and at the Mountain Artist Guild (Prescott, AZ), where she regularly shows her art and teaches workshops.
She is looking forward to teaching painting classes and workshops in Tucson, AZ, where she is moving to in 2023. She also teaches classes online!
